The Summit, a collaborative effort of the Council of State Governments, National Conference of State Legislatures, and the Rural Policy Research Institute, included speakers on Rural Development, Trade, and Federal Policies, such as USDA Undersecretary Bill Hawks and former Congressman Charlie Stenholm of Texas. In addition, small group discussions on dairy, energy policy, the endangered species act, tobacco funds, property rights and rural entrepreneurship, offered participants an opportunity to focus on the specific issues facing their communities. “This gathering of agricultural leaders provided a unique opportunity to meet with other rural legislators, hear from national and international leaders, and exchange ideas that will help me better serve the people of the 28th Senatorial District and the Commonwealth,” said Waugh. |
