FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Waugh Commends Chief John Senft of York City Fire Department for Service on Senate Resolution 60 CommissionCommission Charged with developing legislation to improve delivery of emergency services in PAHARRISBURG – At a press conference this morning, Senator Mike Waugh recognized the hard work of the Senate Resolution 60 Commission, which in November reported their findings and suggestions on emergency services in PA to the Legislature. But the Senator is particularly proud of his legislative appointment to the Commission, Chief John Senft of the York City Fire Department. "When it came to appointing someone to the Commission, of course, York County provided many strong candidates, but I was confident that Chief Senft would represent the fire services community well, especially due to his being Chief of a department with both volunteer and career firefighters," said Waugh, Majority Chairman of the Senate Firefighters and Emergency Services Caucus. In addition to the makeup of his department, Chief Senft has a long history with and a strong commitment to the fire services. Born and raised in York City, Chief Senft joined the City Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1970 and then became a career firefighter in 1973. Since then he has continued moving up through the ranks to his current position, to which he was appointed on January 17, 2000. Not to mention, he is also an instructor for the PA State Fire Academy, as well as a faculty member for the National Fire Academy. "His dedication to his line of work has continued to impress me over the years, and his service on this Commission was no different," said Waugh. "I am very proud of him not only as a firefighter but also as a person and a community leader." Chief Senft, although he could not attend the press conference, expressed his gratitude to the Senator for the opportunity to serve the Commonwealth in his role on the Commission, and he is "hopeful the legislators will seriously consider implementing the recommendations of the Commission for the communities they represent and the Commonwealth as a whole."
