FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senators Waugh and Wenger to Hold Hearing On Farming Innovations and New Education InitiativesHARRISBURG - Senator Mike Waugh (R-York) and Senator Noah Wenger (R-Lancaster) will hold a public hearing from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 17 in Room 8EA of the East Wing in the Capitol Building. The hearing will focus on the need for alternative uses for manure and a new initiative called the "Farms to Schools" program. Among those scheduled to testify are Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff, representatives of conservation agencies, the Chesapeake Bay Commission, area farmers and other experts. Waugh and Wenger serve as chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. They have introduced a comprehensive "Farmers First Agenda," which includes a number of measures designed to preserve farmland, prevent sprawl, help farmers be more competitive and ensure that agriculture remains Pennsylvania's top industry.
