Junior Driver Law Changes
Effective Dec. 24, 2011

Act 81 of 2011 made changes to Junior Driver training requirements and passenger restrictions, as well as seat belt requirements for drivers and passengers under 18, including children under 8. Hunters, Remember to Display Your Licenses

The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) has issued a reminder that hunters and trappers are required by law to visibly display their licenses on an outer garment.  For answers to your licensing questions visit the PGC's Licensing and Permits webpage.


Be Prepared When Calling 911

York County Department of Emergency Services has launched a campaign to educate the public on what they should know when making a 911 call.  Most importantly be prepared to give the following information:

  • The township, borough or city from which you're calling
  • Your phone number
  • Street address/location of the incident

I-83 Resurfacing Project Underway

Weeknights from 9pm*-6am road crews will be resurfacing the north and southbound lanes of I-83 from Manchester to the PA/MD line, motorists will encounter single-lane restrictions.  Work began on July 13th at mile marker 26 and will continue to the state line until the project's completion, estimated to be in mid-October.

*8pm-6am in Southern York County, south of Exit 14.

Take PennDOT's Highway Safety Survey

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requires each state to conduct a survey of licensed drivers relating to highway safety topics.  Please take a few minutes to take this online survey. Deadline is July 30th.

PA One-Call System Protects Homeowners, Contractors

Homeowners and contractors must call 811 prior to any excavation work such as planting shrubs and trees, tunneling, grading, boring or blasting. The call triggers an alert to all the necessary underground facility owners to identify any underground lines or facilities at the intended dig site. Area utility companies will visit the site to mark the location of their respective underground facilities. More information is available online at www.pa1call.org.


Seat Belts are Important for Short Trips

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is reminding motorists that most car accidents happen close to home and at speeds under 40 miles an hour. Motorists and passengers can suffer serious, life-threatening injuries in any accident, and the risk of serious injury is increased by neglecting to use a seat belt. When taking trips to the local store, school, or a friend’s house, please remember to buckle up.


Do You Have Unclaimed Property?

The Pennsylvania Treasury is currently seeking the owners of more than $1.5 billion in unclaimed property, such as unpaid wages, dividends and insurance premiums. Find out if you have unclaimed property using the Unclaimed Property Database at www.patreasury.org or by calling 1-800-222-2046. 


Update Your Do Not Call Registration 

The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General is reminding state residents that their initial registration for the state’s Do Not Call List may have expired. Registration on Pennsylvania’s list is valid for five years from the date of initial registration. State residents can re-register or learn more about Pennsylvania’s Do Not Call list online at www.attorneygeneral.gov.


Save Money on Electricity Bills 

The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is offering a free guide to help state residents learn more about how to shop for electricity service to get the best value.


Missing Endangered Person Advisory System at Work in PA 

The General Assembly recently created the Missing Endangered Person Advisory System (MEPAS) to help families locate missing loved ones who have a physical or mental condition that poses an additional risk. Missing individuals should be reported by placing a 911 call and having a dispatcher connect the caller with law enforcement for the corresponding jurisdiction.


Report Potholes to PennDOT 

Potholes and other road hazards can result in costly auto repairs and accidents. Motorists can report potholes or other road maintenance issues by calling PennDOT's toll-free hotline at 1-800-FIX-ROAD (1-800-349-7623). The hotline connects callers directly to their respective county maintenance office to help resolve any dangerous road conditions as quickly as possible.

Pennsylvania’s Department of Health has launched a website, H1N1inPA.com, for residents to access important information regarding the virus.

The Chesapeake Bay Program has launched several online tools that can help you learn more about the Chesapeake Bay, the watershed in which you live, and the effects our daily lives have on the Bay.
