Mr. Roy Wescher, a local businessman from West York, made his annual trip to Harrisburg with a group of exchange students from York, Dauphin,

and Lancaster County schools on November 1st. It is always a pleasure to meet such fine students and have them visit the Capitol.

At a November 1st meeting of the Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee, I had the honor of meeting and congratulating

Colonel Roy E. Uptegraff, III of McKees Rocks, who was appointed Brigadier General and assigned the command of the 171st Air Refueling Wing of the PA Air National Guard.

On August 2nd Senator Noah Wenger and I held a hearing on our Farmers First Agenda at the Hanover Municipal Building.

Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff provided testimony and answers to questions about the Farmers First Agenda hearing in Hanover.

A York County Eagle Scout and his family visited with me at the Capitol on June 22nd and observed the Senate in session.

Member of Boy Scout Troop 57 from Manchester visited the Capitol on June 13th as part of their work towards the Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge.

Senator Wenger and I held a second public hearing in Lancaster on September 6th

to gather additional information in order to continue moving forward with our Farmers First Agenda.

Dr. Bradley A. Brown of Zion United Methodist Church in York served as the Guest Chaplain in the Senate on June 6th.

On June 6th I was be presented with a Distinguished Service Award from the PA Association of Community Bankers

for my support of community banking.

to announce a new package of legislation intended to help Pennsylvania's farmers.

Ted Donley, a member of the current Future Leaders of York program, had the opportunity to visit the Capitol and meet

Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll.

In March, the Senate Appropriations Committee held our annual Budget Hearings,

at which we asked questions of each Department Secretary in preparation of final approval of the 2005-2006 State Budget.

In February, I participated in a press conference to commend the Senate Resolution 60 Commission,

formed through legislation sponsored by myself and Senator Sean Logan (D-Allegheny), and to formally accept their report on ways to improve emergency services throughout the Commonwealth.

Sinking Springs Elementary School in Central School District invited me to read to one of their classes as part of NEA's Read Across America Program.

This year I had an opportunity to read to 5th graders, as well as answer some of their questions about my job and my life.

My Wife, Wanda, and I participated in the draft horse competitions at the PA State Farm Show in January.

Fortunately, we found some time to relax during the busy schedule.

Fellow Senator Joe Conti stopped by to visit and was greeted by one of my Percherons, Jake.

Joshua Roth, a constituent from the 28th Senatorial District and currently a student at Messiah College, took time out of his busy schedule for a

visit to the Capitol.
