November 9, 2009 – Together Rep. Eugene DePasquale
and I held a press conference to recognize November as Hydrocephalus
Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. We were joined by Rick and Ashley
Mantheiy, a York couple whose two sons have hydrocephalus, Ashley’s

invited me to serve as the keynote speaker at their Veterans Day Memorial

October 19, 2009 - Margaret Howells of New Freedom, accompanied
by her parents, placed 3rd in her division in PennDOT’s School Bus Safety Poster
Contest and was recognized at the awards ceremony held in the Capitol. |

October 19, 2009 - PennDOT held its annual School Bus Safety Poster
Contest awards ceremony at the Capitol, at which Angel Miller of
Glen Rock placed 1st in her division. Rep. Ron Miller and I
presented her with citations from the House and the Senate. |

International Livestock Exposition held at the
PA Farm Show Complex. Pictured

August 2, 2009 – Along with other York County elected officials,
I participated in the Harley Davidson "Save Our Plant" Rally sponsored by Fox
43. This event was organized in response to the potential move by Harley
Davidson of production currently based in Springettsbury Township, York County
to a location outside of Pennsylvania. (7 photos)

June 25, 2009 – Rabbi Jeffrey Astrachan from Temple Beth Israel
in York served as the guest chaplain in the Senate by providing the opening
prayer for Session.

June 15, 2009 – Together with Senators Rich Alloway and Jake
Corman, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I sponsored a meeting
for members of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce to learn more about the current
state budget proposals, including Senate-passed
SB 850.

June 4, 2009 - My staff and I conducted an open house for our
newly located satellite office in Hanover. Shown here with me are: intern
Maggie Stauffer, student shadow Dan McLaughlin, and Hanover staff member Barb

June 2, 2009 – Maggie Stauffer of Red Lion and a sophomore at
Ursinus College is working as a summer intern in my York district office.

McLaughlin, shadowed my staff and me for three weeks as part of his
senior project required for graduation. |

March 31, 2009 - The Senate Agriculture and Rural
Affairs Committee held a hearing on the Governor's proposed
2009-2010 budget for the Department of Agriculture.

March 16, 2009 – The Sterner Family of Hanover visited the
Senate where I presented them with a citation recognizing their unique scouting
achievement. All four sisters earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest
award in Girl Scouts.

March 12, 2009 – The Senate Education Committee held a public
hearing at Lincoln Charter School in York to gather information on
issues surrounding charter schools in Pennsylvania – their
achievements, the laws governing them, and ways to improve the
current laws and funding mechanisms of charter schools.

February 23, 2009 – During the Senate
Budget Hearing with Secretary of the Budget Mary Soderberg and
Acting Secretary of Revenue Steven Stetler, I questioned the
Governor’s proposal to use a large portion of the state’s Rainy Day
Fund to balance this year’s budget.

February 4, 2009 – Following the Governor’s
Budget Address in a joint legislative session I spoke with several
media outlets to provide my thoughts on his

Milking Contest at the Farm Show. My team, led by former
Representative Art Hershey (third from left), included James
Creedon, Secretary of the
Department of General Services; Matt Barcaro from
WGAL News 8; and Dave Dawson from the new indoor football team,
the

Senator Mike Brubaker, Chairman of the
Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee was on hand at the Farm
Show's public officials' luncheon, which provides an opportunity for fellow
legislators and other elected officials to come together and discuss
agricultural issues facing their communities.

January 15, 2009 – Following the public officials’ luncheon,
Senator Lisa Baker, Chair of the
Senate Veterans Affair and Emergency Preparedness Committee and newly
elected
Senator Lloyd Smucker (York and Lancaster Counties) stopped by the
Equine Barn to meet my percheron draft horses.
